Hi! I'm Nicole.
I was formerly Newly Northern Nicole living in Yellowknife, NWT, but these days I'm a Rocky Mountain girl under the name of Gypsy in Jasper. I made the move "down south" to Jasper in October of 2011. Although I loved the north, I found myself longing for the mountains and the adventures they allow.
When I'm not out in the wilderness, I'm a journalist by trade. I studied at the University of Western Ontario and ever since I've been a small town reporter making my way around Canada one newspaper at a time. I love to write and tell stories, and I love being the first to know what's going on, so the job's pretty much perfect, although daunting at times.
My blog was originally formed as a way to keep in touch with the friends I've met during my travels. But since moving to Jasper it has become more of a cache for all of my DIY projects, photography misadventures, outfit posts, recipes and stories.
Many of my adventures include my boyfriend Ian, who has been my photography professor over the past year and a half. I'll willingly admit that I still have a long way to go when it comes to taking quality photos, but if you saw the shots I was taking back in 2010, you'd know I've already come a long way.
I've also come pretty far with my fashion and DIY abilities, as you'll see if you look back in the Gypsy in Jasper archives.
Anyway, hi, welcome and thanks for stopping in. Feel free to say hi back. I'm always up for a chat.
